A year in prison for saving a kestrel

That is the headline in the Depeche, Marjorie Legiere from Castanet faces a large fine or a year in prison if she does not have her pet falcon ( kestrel in English) humanely destroyed. Keeping wild animals in France is strictly against the law. The kestrel flew as a young bird into the car windscreen and damaged bones in its wings making flying impossible. The laws of nature meant the bird would die but  the lady took it upon herself to feed and care for him and is now attached to the bird.
Two years ago one of our baby kestrels, nesting at Mas del Sol. not long from the nest damaged a wing in a fight with a sibling over a mouse in the field. We left it , but a young neighbour down the road kept it in a cage for a few days. When he released it, his dog caught and killed it. All very sad, but with out being able to fly there is little chance of survival. The lady has a petition you can sign to help her keep the bird but I will not be signing, as I wonder what  sort of life a kestrel will have in a cage. Nature dictates  in the animal world the survival of the fittest.
Malc does not agree and feels the kestrel should be given a chance
